A couple cooking with the Backpacker on the Oregon coast where the mountains meet the sea
Our story

Born where the mountains meet the sea.

Coastal Range is named for the California range where the mountains run straight down to the sea — the terrain that shaped how we build gear.

Lighter by Design. Built to Last.

Before founding Coastal Range Equipment, John Peretti spent five years leading R&D at one of the outdoor industry's most established stove brands, designing award-winning backcountry cooking systems and developing deep expertise in what makes gear lighter, more reliable, and more enjoyable to use in the field. Based in Manchester, New Hampshire, one of the outdoor industry's premier hubs for backpacking stove innovation, he helped bring new products from concept to production while refining them through extensive field testing.

Just as importantly, he spent those years listening to backpackers, hunters, guides, Scout leaders, and the independent outdoor retailers who help people choose gear they'll rely on for years. Those conversations reinforced a simple belief: the best outdoor gear is thoughtfully engineered around the people who use it, not overloaded with features they don't.

John founded Coastal Range Equipment to build products that solve real problems for customers and create lasting partnerships with independent outdoor retailers. From the beginning, dealers have been treated as trusted partners, with straightforward programs, responsive support, and products they are proud to recommend. Customers receive the same commitment through honest engineering, dependable performance, and a three-year warranty backed directly by our team.

The first expression of that philosophy is the Backpacker. Every detail was refined through countless prototypes and miles of real-world testing with John's family, friends, and their dog, Elvis. The result is a lightweight cooking system with everything you need on the trail and nothing you don't.

Named for the rugged landscapes where the mountains meet the sea, Coastal Range Equipment builds highly functional, lightweight gear that earns its place in your pack and is designed to serve you for years of adventure.

We hope you love it as much as we do. Adventure Better,

— John Peretti, Founder & CEO

We believe in great adventures.

Engineered by hand, not by committee

Before the first production run, John machined and tested burner heads and heat exchangers himself — iterating on real metal until the boil numbers were right.

Every part earns its place

Every component is engineered for weight — then the whole system nests inside the pot with your fuel, so it packs down to nothing.

The result

One of the lightest systems that still feeds the group

A full 1.2 L pot at 9.2 oz — one of the lightest integrated stoves, with a bigger pot that feeds two or three. Hard-anodized aluminum, one-click Piezo ignition, a 230 g canister nests inside, and it boils 0.5 L in about 2.5 minutes.

What we believe

Great gear makes for great adventures. Our gear: for any adventure — approachable, timeless.

Adventure Better

Performance without the weight. Craft without the fuss. Gear that disappears into your pack and shows up exactly when you need it.

The tastiest meals are eaten outside

Hunger makes the best sauce. We build for real food at camp, not just boiled water.

Keep whatever cookware you like

Your kit should work together — use any pan, any standard fuel. We don't believe in a proprietary tax.
